Hydro-power Engineering is comprehensive engineering knowledge (design, drawings, computations) of various components of a hydro-power project. The various components are : Geology. Hydrology , Power Potential Studies. Dam, spillways, diversion tunnels. The program aims at letting the students go in depth in hydraulic engineering, combining technical/economical analysis, studies of environmental effects and measures to reduce unwanted effects, and studies of selected hydraulic structures like dams, intakes, tunnel systems or spillway structures. Some further topics include: Design and optimization of hydraulic structures, cost/benefit analysis and system optimization, environmental effects of river regulation and measures to reduce negative effects, design of intake structures in sediment carrying rivers, multi-purpose projects with hydropower, irrigation and flood control. In general, hydro-power engineers are responsible for designing hydro electric facilities and equipment; using, developing and implementing internal engineering tools; developing specifications and technical procedures for the procurement; manufacturing, installation and commissioning of equipment; conducting inspections of project sites and workplace environments.
