A family therapy degree program prepares students for the licensing necessary to become an independent practitioner. Additionally, the program may help those from a different field of psychology make the switch to a specialization in marriage and family therapy. With the proper licensing, graduates of masters programs can work as marriage and family therapists. Graduates of Ph.D. programs are qualified for research and academic careers as well. Common occupations include Private practice family therapist, Hospital counsellor, and Counselling center administrator etc.
