Geologists study the physical characteristics and composition of the earth and its natural resouces. After performing their field or lab work using a variety of tools and software to collect data and conduct research they can choose to work for engineering firms, oil and gas companies or government agencies. Some environmental geologists travel to collect data and their work can be physically demanding and include long hours while in the field. Later, they go on to work for the mining companies or oil and gas exploration companies to extract the untapped resources.
